Kribensis Acting Wierd

i have a pair of kribensis in my 130 gallon, and my male krib is hiding under a rock, i didnt even know it was possible for him to get under it.

his 'history' is as follows

i bought him and the female at the same time as 4 bolivian rams.
he lost his stripe and was a dull colour about 2 days after i got him
i noticed his mouth was reddish
he was ard to find, as was the female
he gained back his colour and looks good
he was hard to find
today: hiding under the rock and his mouth isnt red but he doesnt close it.


he also hasnt been eating when i feed the fish, though he looks plump, he may be scavenging. the other fish in his tank are in my sig.

I would quarantine him and watch for any more signs. Sounds like he may be coming down with something.

Are you sure they havent mated? Although i guess its weird for the male to be hiding rather than the female

i dont think theyre old enough to breed yet,

drobbyb, i would, though i dont have a quarentine tank. i do have the 17 gal, but it doesnt have mature filter media in the filter, ill go on setting it up asap now though.

Is there any way you can borrow some mature media from the big tank? If you can that would be best. I would hate for a pathogen to be passed to another fish. Also, try posting this in the emergency section so Wilder will see it.

Can you post a picture? It sounds as if his jaw is locking into place. If so, I fear there may nothing you can do about it. It's extremely rare if it is indeed a locked jaw.

I just bought some kribs about a week ago, and they are doing the same thing that your kribs are doing, minus the locked jaw. They hide a lot, and only come out when the hood light is off. Now, however, they do come out some time during the day when the light is on. They also do eat, its just hard to get them to commit to a piece of food. They should though, warm up as time goes on though. They seem really healthy, so hoping for the best!

sadly he passed away, he didnt look sick at all before, he just was hiding, wich was wierd, im going to buy a tank for quarentine soon though.

R.I.P. Mr. Krib I'm sorry for your loss. I hope your next one(if there is one), does better! Kribs don't usually get sick and die.
