Hello all. I have finally gotten myself straight. I have a 29 gallon that currently houses 1 male and 3 female Kribs. They have been together for several months. The other tank mates are being moved to a new (larger) tank this weekend. There are also 2 kuhli loaches in there that I know I will never get out. So... what are a few good mates for these Kribs? They have been with 5 rosy barbs (who will be rehomed), 2 severum, a featherfin squeaker and a rubber lip. The only ones staying are the Kribs.

I was thinking Danios???

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

What are the dimensions of the tank? Aqua One 620Ts hold just short of 29 gallons, but their squat/cube shape really limits the suitablity of fish for the tank.

Danios would not make suitable tankmates, most common types are very active for their size and so need at least 4-foot long tanks, but they are also temperate water fish (unlike the tropical Kribs).

If your 29g is a long tank, a group of say 6-10 African Red Eye Tetra could work well as dithers that will occupy the upper levels of the tank. If your male pairs up, I suspect that your tank will not be long enough to accomodate the two unpaired females and you will see the submissive signs of these two being pinned to the top corners of the tank furthest away from the pair's cave.

There is an established pair in with the rest of the females. They get along great even when breeding. I dont really care for the red eye tetra... Any other suggestions??? What about other tetras or barbs? What about other cichlids?

My spawning pair of Kribs killed off my catfish as well as two other female kribs. However, I also have two Blue Ram cichlids which are doing fine with them. I do notice that the Kribs keep the Blue Rams in the middle to top part of the tank but the Blue Rams don't seem to mind. As long as you have sufficient hiding places and decorations I would recommend Blue Rams. They stay fairly small, are peaceful, and despite being a South American cichlid, they are very happy with the Kribs and are showing beautiful color. Good Luck!
