A couple of days ago I went and bought a pair of kribs. They are really really tiny, about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch. They are really hard to tell at this size if they are male/female. What I am wondering is if this is a m/f pair, or should I get several more and wait for 2 to pair off, and sell the others back? Any suggestions are welcome.

Oh, and you can see them here.

i think they are a pair...

the male usually has an 'eye' dot on his tail...

and his dorsal is usually longer and pointed..

i think u got a pair, but not positive

Looks like a mae and a female to me. The only thing Iwould worry about is the fact that the male is so small. IME, the male needs to be a lot bigger than the female so she'll like him. My female krib was really aggressive against my smaller male and she had to be moved. She is now back with him as he is a little bigger, but I would be careful.

Thanks, I will have to watch that. Right now, the male is slightly bigger, but not by very much at all, it's almost hard to see. I haven't seen any aggression at all. I will just keep an eye out and hope things go well. Thanks for the advice.

looks like a pair to me too....I have found that the males seem to grow quicker than females from the same batch, so you might be ok....keep an eye out!

Males only have one dot on their tail fin. Females will have two to three dots, they are really gorgeous when they're older.

In my experience raising mine, you have a pair, and a CUTE one :) Not all males have spots on their tails.....none of mine have. That really won't help sex them. The males WILL grow faster, so if he's bigger now, he will always be.

The females are the choosers in the relationship. If she doesn't like him, even if he's twice her size, she can kill him. These are tempermental fish

With Dwarf Cichlids, I've discovered its better to start with a female, allow her to rule the tank, then add a large male. She will be instantly attracted.....typical woman  But since you already have a pair, just let them grow together and it could be wonderful? Ya never know :)

Good luck to you Snuff

I have three of these beauties in one of my tanks. I've been waiting for a little while now for them to t'breed. Hopefully, you'll have more success with your pair.

Give us all a shout when they do, mind.

It could be a while....my current pair spawned for over 6 months before they got the hang of it and managed to bring fry into the world. Then again, my first pair spawned 10 days after I introduced the male, and raised that batch of fry to adults?

It just depends on the fish
