i bought a male and female krib about 4 months ago for my community but the male decided he liked the taste of male guppy's tails so put him in my oscar tank (partitioned of course) now i have rehomed my oscars, but 2 days ago i put the female back in with him knowing i was getting rid of the oscars, tonight i have re-scaped the tank giving them abot 40 caves but every time she goes in one he is chasing her out ( the tank is 4x1.5x2 so about 340l ) her belly is really red and has taken the shape of a tiger barb when looking from the side ( best way i can describe it) she is about 1.5 inch and the male about 2-2.5 inch would you say she is ready to breed ? or is he too agressive ?

A krib (Pelvicachromis pulcher) is an african cichlid, and although you might get an answer here, you ought to post this in the old world cichlid section for a definative on breeding behaviour etc...

It does sound like eggs will be there anytime soon, whether that means fry is hard to say...time will tell

thanks hopefully one of the moderators will move it for me :good:

update just been watching them for the last 10 mins and evry time they are in open water he approches her quickly then swims next to her and shudders

Yeah my male HRP used to do that whilst circling around the female, almost looks like a seizure, it's more a demonstration of power I think...quite normal...enjoy the displays whilst they last

If they start protecting young the male will do that sort of thing at you if you get too close to warn you off (assuming african cichlids behave like americans in this regard)
