hi, a couple of weeks ago i noticed that 2 of my kribs were guarding a burrow under some bogwood. today the adults emerged with nine tiny little fry. this is the second time i have had krib fry. the first time was with a different female, but the babies only lasted a day or 2. so this time i am hoping to raise them to adults. but what should i feed them?
i'll try and get some pics soon, but my camera skills are rather rubbish.

cheers :good:

Congrates on the fry!!! hopefully they make it this time. You can feed them daphnia, infusoria, artemia and im sure theres a few more im not thinking of, you can also feed them commercially prepared baby food too i think

thanks, i'll have a look for the foods. the only problem is that they are breeding in a community tank, so the other fish will probably get to the food first. and i'm not sure where to get the live foods from. would frozen be ok?

cheers :good:

You can buy liquid fry food from your local fish shop - or just very finely crush your flake foods. Get a pipette or a syringe from your chemist, mix the finely crushed flake or liquid fry food with a little of the tank water in an egg cup, suck it up with the syringe or pipette and squirt it near the fry.

They will find plenty of infusoria in the tank if its a mature one and you will see the female leading them round the tank to find it.

thanks, they are constantly "pecking" at the bogwood/sand so i guess they are eating infusoria? the tank is about 2 years old, so it's mature. i've read that the female won't let the male near the fry at first, but mine take it in turns. is that normal?

cheers :good:

Different krib 'couples' have very different relationships - they are complicated little creatures! Some are more aggressive than others - for instance ive kept neon tetras with mine quite happily and everyone says thats unusual as neons are their food in the wild! :good:

hi, just a quick update. the babies will be five days old tomorrow. there are 8 left from the original 9. the one that died never moved about much from the start. they are all looking really healthy and i hope that they will survive now. the parents are great, they take it in turns to look after the fry. i have been giving the babies crushed flakes and although i haven't seen them eat it (as i was going to school) they do appear to be getting bigger.

cheers :good:

HELP!!! i have just seen two of the fry nowhere near the parents. what should i do? should i leave them and see if they live, or should i catch them and try to raise them in a livebearer breeding trap?

please help quickly

cheers :good:

hi, just a quick update, there are 5 babies left now, which i think is good for their first attempt. they are growing really quickly, and are about 6mm long. i haven't fed them any baby foods, just crushed flake. i can see that their tummies are full, so they're not hungry. the parents seem to be giving them a bit more freedom now, is that normal? a few times a baby has been left swimming at the bottom amongst the rummy nosed tetras and cardinal tetras. but they didn't take much notice of it, i'm more worried about the other kribs and the serpae's. but all is going well ATM.

cheers :good:
