hiya all
2 weeks or so ago i reported by kribs had just laid eggs in the community tank
this is the fist time either of the pair had spawned and it was the first time i had kribs that spawned.
so i know little about these fish with the exception of what i've read.
Well they had about i'd guess 50 fry that when they first ventured out that was about 4 days ago,now i'm down to less that 10 i think.

Does anyone think it would be good policy to try to remove the last 10 or would you just accept it was there first go,,better luck next time type thing?

I'm not a krib expert, but I think it depends on the other fish the tank. The parents would normally not eat them, but the other fish will. If you have fish that like to eat the fry, maybe it's best to remove the fry.
Personally I always let nature take its course, but I can understand that you want to save the fry you have left. Actually, my krib eggs are always gone before they even hatch, and I'm tempted to remove the eggs, but I think the most fun is watching parents take care of their babies, like I see on my convicts now, so great to watch.
So anyway, it's really up to you. If you want to be sure they survive, remove them. If you like to watch parents gard the fry, leave them...

If the parents feel that raising the fry is a lost cause due to regular disturbances or over crowding then they will eat the spawn themselves to reclaim the nutrients lost by spawning, when keeping spawning cichlids in a community tank it is a good idea to remove half the fry as soon as they are free swimming. Never remove all the fry as the parents may blame each other for the loss of the spawn and lose the pair bond.
I would leave the remaining fry to let nature take its course this time but have a tank prepared for the next time they spawn which wont be long where kribs are concerned.

thanks for the advice duendecillo and cfc
i suspected as much i proberbly will leave the fry now and just wait for next time.
the thing thats really getting me mad is the fact when i was aware the kribs had spawned i gave away the most mischevious fish in 2 tinfoil barbs and 1 red tail shark.
now i have inc kribs 14 fish in a 4ft tank and all the other fish are packed into 1/4 of the available space because the kribs seem to want a 3ft exclusion zone so it is very frustraiting because i got a little advice when they first spawned and the advice came in thick and fast not to touch the fry under any circumstances as the kribs wont breed again in all proberbility.

Still problem shared is a problem halfed.

cheers folks
