Krib Fry Now 1/2 To 3/4 Centimeter...is This Filter Alright For Them?

hey i have put an aquaclear 20 in my 15 gallon tank but found that it sucked the small fry through the inlet...i covered it with a stocking for approx 5 weeks now and found it very useful in stopping the fry from entering the inlet but not very useful in actually cleaning the tank and the water that supposed to be flowing like a waterfall, drips just after hours of cleaning the stocking...I have an internal sponge filter that expells the water to produce a current...could this filter now be inserted without the fear of the fry (currently 1/2 to 3/4 cm in length but very healthy and active) being sucked and being stuck in the spongy part??? thanks for any replies....
