I've read that this is a very peaceful fish, when kept alone. So I was at my lfs (looking to buy a baby whale, but the Pet Store guy wouldn't sell it to me until it got more healthy) anyway there was krib cichlids beside their tank, the dude said they were non agressive so on an impulse buy I bought 1 of them (only one) they said it was good for community tanks, so I added it to mine. Was this a good move? It won't get hungry and go on a murderous rampaga will it? It's really small.

And how do I tell if it's a male or female?

What other fish do you have and what size is your tank?

They can become pretty aggressive if they want..

As for determining male from female.. if you look at the top of the tail.. males will have an ''eye spot''... it's a decent sized circle/dot on the top of the tail.

Well, I have one in a 30 gallon tank. I have juard if you have just one they are not agressive but I dunno. They was (at the lfs) in a seperate tank from the other cichlids. Mine has bee in my tank for around 3 hours and I haven't had any tragedys yet.

In a few months I will upgrade to a 75 gallon tank.

Should be fine on it's own, cichlids get protective when they are breeding and looking after babies

If its a male then you maybe ok as they are less aggressive than females.

Depends really on if you have any bottom dwelling fish. Once mature, females will chase anything close enough and will even go looking for trouble.

The krib is fine while its a juvenile.
