One of my LFS has gotten in about 20 Koi Swords! I was a bit disappointed though since the males were quite small and looked a bit ragged in the fins and only one of the females had a real nice color pattern. I will wait a few weeks and see if the males start looking better before I decide to buy any, but it was a happy surprise to see them anyway! :)

Aren't they adorable? I just got some this week! I have 3 little juveniles, can't tell the sex yet. One of them is half red and half white and the other 2 are solid white with little orange caps on the tops of their heads. They are the red eyed version. They are only about an inch long and I keep hoping they'll grow faster! I've only had them for 4 days so they are still in my quarentine tank getting spoiled rotten.

All of the ones at the store had the red eyes! Cool or what? I was hoping to find some with a nice orange white orange striping but the best looking female had an orange front and was white from the front of the dorsal and back.

I absolutely love my koi swordies!! :) Around here it seems no one can get any females -- they think they have females, and they all turn out to be males (which is how I originally wound up with 3 males when I asked for 1 male & 2 females).

I managed to talk a LFS owner out of one of the females he was keeping for himself though. ;) Haha. She JUST had babies earlier today too... I'm SO psyched!!! (I've only counted about 6, but the're alone in a 29 gallon tank with lots of plants, so I'm hoping there's more hiding!)

Mine are all the red/white/red pattern with dark eyes.

The December issue of Aquarium Fish magazine (which came in the mail a couple weeks ago already haha!) has a pretty big article about koi swordtails too -- check it out if you get a chance!!

Will have to pick up a copy! Thanks for letting us know. Mine have finally sexed out and I definately have 2 females and one male. Can't wait to have some babies!

Thats great PB! I am really happy for you The Kois at my LFS are getting a bit better looking. The fish always seem so under fed when they arrive that it is a good idea for me to try waiting a few weeks before buying any. Of course then I risk losing out on the best looking ones.

I just got it too! Its actually the first time I have ever heard of or seen the Koi Swordtails but I am thinking about ordering some myself!

Beautiful fish or what. I think my Marigolds and Blue-blacks are a bit lonely in the 30gal and are going to get some new friends soon.

I'm so jealous of all you guys - my lfs doesn't have the December issue yet, just November. Does the article have many pictures?

Paulthegreat - I think some Koi swordies would look great with your blacks and marigolds! They really are eye-catching. I'm just trying to figure out how I can add the lyretail trait in future generations (without spending a fortune on Aquabid).

I ma just wondering if there is any koi swordtail breeder from Rockville, Maryland USA?

Wow, you're really close to me! I live in Damascus. The place where I found my Koi Swordtails was The Aquarium Center in Randallstown MD. It's probably about an hours drive from you, but they have a HUGE assortment of fish. Lots of Livebearers. I'm not sure they'd still have them in, but I'm sure you could call and ask. Their number is 410-521-4529. (How sad is it when you have a fish store number memorized.... :p )

Hello all... I have never seen any of these Swordies that y'll are talking about.. Are they colored like the Koi Goldfishes?? :dunno:

Kind of, but not exactly! They look like this:

The coloring will vary though...some have more white, or more orange, some have very defined stripes alternating in orange and white, etc. They all look different, but you can get an idea of what they look like from that. :)
