Koi Died : (

Do an immdiate water change, add some clean filter floss to the tank, and some fresh black carbon, once you have gotten rid of the chemicals the fish might be ok.

I changed nearly ALL of the water, scrubbed the filters and filter pads. The wax is no longer in the water, just attached to the fish's body.

As long as the nasty chemicals are out of the wax, the fish will rub if off itself.
Usually ice on hard wax, but it will come off, don't want to stress the fish anymore than needed.
You didn't touch your sponges in the filter by giving them a good clean too, as the black carbon should of removed anything harmful.

I really hope so. Especially since it got on it's whiskers aren't those really sensitive? maybe that's why he hasn't been eating since the incident.

Well i can understand as if the whisker have wax on them he might not be able to sense food, but how you get if off is another matter, you will have to get him out of the tank, soak a cloth in tank water and wrap him in it, and try and get if off his whiskers.

Paraffin is inert and not toxic. Humans dip there hands in it for treatment of arthritis. Most fish surfaces are covered with a mucus or slime layer. It'll probably come off on it's own. You'll probably do more damage trying to get it off then leaving it on.

OH....lighting candles in your house is a surefire way to risk a fire. Don't do it. JMO. SH

Paraffin is inert and not toxic....

Unfortunately, most candles have more substances than pure paraffin; such as colouring agents and scent chemicals. I've noticed several public warnings about scented candles affecting human health...not just from the fumes when burned, but some people are also affected just by the off-gassing from unlit scented candles. I won't have them in my house. Apparently there are no government regulations for chemicals in candles, and when you're smelling their perfumey scent, that smell is particles of chemicals in the air, contacting your nose's sensory cells. That means that those chemicals are also getting into your lungs, and there they get into your bloodstream. Of course, these airborne chemicals will also land in your fish tank, so fish keepers should not have scented candles in their homes.

Raechal, I'm very sorry about your fish. I wonder if he ate some drops of candle wax, because of the natural reaction of fishes to gulp down anything that lands on the water surface? If he did, who knows what the candle's chemicals did to him internally.
:(

Thanks. He probably did eat some or something. I mean, my two other fish were perfectly fine and had absolutely no wax on them at all.

Or bless, sorry, must be awful, R.I.P.

Wow, yeah, bad idea to lite a candle and then go outside and do something. That's very interesting about the chemicals in the candles. Maybe that's why I get so woozy when I walk by "Bath & Body Works."

Yeah I wasn't expecting to be outside for 10 minutes, I was just going to go outside and grab the hose but my dad was using it and we started talking and then I totally forgot about the candles in my room.
