hey all this is my first post here

i recently setup a brackish tank, 200l with an sg of 1.005 which is home to four tiny f8 puffers and 6 knight gobies for now

today i thought that 4 of my gobies had disappeared and i started checking the tank for dead fish. there are some large pebbles piled in the corners of the tank and I noticed a fin flapping underneath them. I lifted up the pebble and found the four gobies ( 1 male three females) had dug a hollow under some of the pebbles. They immediately started picking at the pebbles surrounding them and were soon joined by the puffers (which they tried to scare off) I then notcied some microscopic eggs on the pebble I had picked up and I assume there was more on the other pebbles (though theyre so small I couldnt tell)

i placed the pebble in a custom breeding trap (a large ice cream tub with lots of tiny holes i poked : ) )in the main tank with an open ended airline to agitate the water a little

Im not holding out much hope for them to hatch but it would be interesting to see them nevertheless

could anyone give me any pointers?

and has anyone experienced these gobies breeding as a group?

thanks

SWEET! I cant give you any pointers but congrats! I cant even get my mollies to reproduce let alone knight gobies. I just thinkthat the seperat container with a few holes poked in is not going to be enough.

I had some jack Dempseys breed alot, and I could never raise the young. I even put the fry in there own tank wich I filled with water from the display. They would last for 3-4 wks then start to die off. I did water changes almost daily. All I can say is put the fry in there own tank and do water changes daily.

thanks for the input

i know the breeding tub is not ideal but on such short notice it was the best i could do.

the problem is that i didnt have any other tanks set up with brackish water.

ive bred several other fish (mainly cichlids like malawis, tangs, dwarf cichlids etc) and have experience raising egg layer fry to breeding age but these eggs caught me off guard and they are the tiniest ive seen

guess we'll just have to wait till next spawn

well, ive got wrigglers : )

ive got some green water ready for them - any clue as to how much I should feed them
