is a 55 gal big enough for a kissing gouramis? i came over here from aquarium central and i think they give me bogus info on a lot of topics

Looks to me like they can grow to a foot long. I would get a 75 gallon tank for it then, minimum. (which is 4 feet long by 18 inches wide)

I have no first hand experience with them though, just that I read from a few sites just now that they can get up to 12 inches. Some sites said 12 inches is usually only reached in the wild. If that is true, then a 55 would be large enough for a fish up to about 8 inches. (so the fish has 1.5 times its length to turn around in the tank)

hi,
i have 2, 3inch kissing gourami in a 260ltr tank,
ive had them for over a year, when i got them they were about 2inch.
i expect them to get to 6-8inch eventually.

They very rarely get to 12". The most common size is between 8" and 10" and a 55 would be fine for one.

Ok good thanks for the info i only have one with 6 danio 3 tiger barbs and 2 pakastani botai

If those are in a 55, that's absolutely fine but get some more tiger barbs ;)

Those were my thoughts too. I would like some corys to and a pleco. do you think they will go good with the gouramis? thanks every one

Hi,
with my 2 kissing gourami i have 2 plecos and they dont bother with them,
i also have 5 panda corys everyone gets along fine :)

The cories may not appreciate having the loaches for company but if you go for a relatively large group of one of the larger species (eg peppered or brochis) it should be alright.

The plec would be fine - but not a common or sailfin. It would have to be something that stays quite small and won't outgrow your tank (like a bristlenose) but also won't get harassed by the loaches.
