I am well and truly off gouramis now. First i had aggressive dwarf gouramis who killed one of their own. I got rid of them and moved my kissing gouramis into my 50g as someone said my 35g was too small for them and today i found my baby Oscar dead with his fins shredded. :-( Now I see they are after my small Angel fish. I've put a for sale ad in buy sell or swap, i just hope someone takes them soon. I don't want any more casualties, 2 in a week is enough. I suppose this is a lesson learned the hard way about researching combinations of fish.

I am sorry to hear what happened, but yes, kissing gouramis are agressive! If your oscar (and your angel fish) would be bigger, it would have been less of a problem....
Hope you find them a good home soon!

thats a shame, poor fish. how many gouramis u got? u not got a spare tank for them. i think they are nice gouramis.

I've gotta disagree, although I agree Kissing Gouramis are aggressive they may not have eaten your oscar. Chances are the Oscar died for some other reason and the gouramis have just started to eat the corpse (like most fish would). Also, your dwarf gouramis probably only turned on one of their own because it was weak or diseased.

there are 2 of them and no unfortunately i haven't got a spare tank, I've got dwarf puffers in one of my others tank and guppies in the other. It's my own stupid fault really, i saw them at lfs, thought they were cute, asked the owner if they would be o.k with dwarf gouramis he said yes of course. He didn't tell me that they grow to be massive and are aggressive. If anyone knows anyone in Southampton who wants them i would be grateful, in the meantime do you think my angels will be o.k? I would put them in with the guppies but they are about to give birth and i'm pretty surev the Angels would eat the fry, really not sure what to do now.

Maybe you are right Timmy, i didn't see how my oscar died so i am really only guessing. It's just that nothing else in that tank has any shown any aggression and the gouramis do have a tendency to chase and nip. I observed this behaviour in my dwarf gouramis and thought it would be o.k but they ended up killing the smallest one. I'm sure all gouramis aren't like that i've just been unfortunate that mine are.
