Kissing Fish?

yep, they are male gouramis - if you have a pair - male and female they wont bump lips - has to be two males..

no, this is no gourami, trust me. They are just sitting in the tank kissing (puckering up) constantly. But their not mine, I just saw them at Wal-Mart. They look kinda pitiful.

Here's a picture of one

Ewww, those are, as far as i can understand, some sort of morpherd Kissing Gourami. They are indeed gouramis, but why they are so short and bubbly i do not know. Maybe it's just like a ballon molly?

And the kissing action between two of them IS aggresion.

Its a Balloon Kissing Gourami in that picture, line bred to make it like that, like balloon mollies and balloon rams

Ballooned anything is disgusting and ungodly.

Just for everyone- Kissing Gouramis grow to a very large size- atleast 8" if not more. They are also very thick and tall and fast. You're looking at 65 gallons if not more and thats if its lightly stocked. They also get quite beligerant once they get huge...

Just wanted to say that it isn't just the males that 'kiss'. Both sexes will do it - it's a territorial/aggressive gesture. It's actualy near-impossible to visualy sex this species and, unlike most other gouramies, they don't have the elongated ventrals. The 'balloon' trait is a mutation that showed up (like with mollies) that was then exploited - bred for generations to maintain a 'balloon' line. Similarly, the natural color of this fish is green. Balloons rarely reach the 8" of your typical kisser (which can actualy get larger than that), being fully grown at around 6". Still, they are territorial and have a tall body, not to mention are rather messy, high-waste-producing fish, so a large volume is still required. I don't realy have any problem with this fish besides the fact that most people don't give them adequate room to thrive. They aren't hybrids BTW.

No. They are just a mutation of the common Kissing Gourami. They aren't mixed with any other species. :)
