Well the green terror I saved from the pet store has healed up nicely but now he thinks he owns the place. Its a 55 gal tank with the green terror, a firemouth and two convict cichlids with fry. The green terror is being really aggressive towards the firemouth/me (if i walk by the tank he tries to chase me off). He hasnt nipped any fins but if the firemouth is in his sight he will chase him. Im thinking I will either have to get a new tank for him only, move the firemouth (I really dont want to do this bc the only tank I could put him in ins 29 gal), or get a tank for him only. Im just wondering if anyone has experienced this before or has any suggestions. I feel bad that I even bought him now :(

Yep GT's turn aggressive fairly quickly, one minute they are fine, the next, all hell breaks loose.

You will either need to remove/rehome the GT. Even removing the FM wont help, once he's gone the GT will likely go for the convicts. In all seriousness, the GT needs the 55g for himself only and you may get away with a few fast dithers (Giant Danios for example).

imo a green terror wouldnt have much of a hope against a adult male con, gt agression is overhyped.

I think that's pushing the aggressive cichlid content in a 55gal. I think nothing less than a 100g with some dithers or 150g with other cichlids.

I have a GT, a baby Oscar, a Keyhole and a Bolivian Ram in my 190L at the moment, until my 150g comes next month. The bigger fish are going in there then. My GT is not hugely aggressive at the moment, but long term everything else would be killed. They are OK short term but not for much longer.

They are stunning fish, so seriously worth thinking about getting a larger tank, or a separate one for him.

I would have thought the convicts would give him a run for his money with fry in there, or are they babies still?
