Kinda Confused

To my understanding, the advice on ammonia adds was this: 4-5 ppm until ammonia is dropping in 12 hours. Then, drop it to 2ppm until the nitrites start dropping then crank it back up to 4ppm. Is this correct?

I had posted the other day that I had intended to do this, but then I'd tested and nitrites had dropped a bit, so I decided to just keep it up to 4ppm.

After that day, the nitrites crawled back up between 2-5 ppm so yesterday I did the 2ppm add because I had remembered what waterdrop said about occasionally getting a lower reading but then it climbing back up. So yesterday showed 2-5 ppm nitrite, I added 2 ppm of ammonia....and now this morning Nitrite is a big fat zero. Last night at 8:30 it was between 2-5 ppm (I THINK more on the 2 end but those colors are so hard to tell between).

I wasn't sure what amount of ammonia to add, so I added 4pmm of ammonia. I hope this is the right thing to have done. Here's the stats as of this morning:

Looks like your cycle is done, if all 4ppm went in 12 hours

I'd keep adding 4ppm of ammonia for the next week though, as the colony is flimsy directly after the cycle, and is prone to "blips" ond the occasional mini-cycle that you obviously want to avoid

Agreed Rabbut, Lioness is cycled!!

Lioness, keep adding ammonia to 4ppm, as Rabbut says, for the next few days at least, and make double sure that your bacteria can consistently turn 4ppm of ammonia entirely into nitrate in 12 hours.

Have you made a final decision on your stocking list yet?

Added 4ppm of ammonia this morning....its 0 tonight..but the nitrites are still about 1.0+ Be curious to see if what it is at the 24 hour mark in the morning...least then I'd know just how close i am.

Not to worry, Lioness.

You've processed it all in 12 hours once already, so it's just not consistent yet. Shouldn't be any more than a few days to go.

well Im back down to 0 again this morning...but its not in 12 hours. I add ammonia and in 12 hours that is gone, but its taking 24 hours (or somewhere in between 12 and 24) for the nitrites to be 0 so I am close...just not quite there
