hi fish fans

i read on here that the best way to get rid of pest snails if you had shrimps was to use Kusuri wormer +

i've put in 3 doses in 3 weeks so far and the little gits are still there, any ideas? or what else will work

without killing my shrimps?

thanks

ooops kusuri

how big is your aquarium, have you tryed something like Botia Dario or Clown loach, remember they need to be in groups, and clown loach can get large :good:

Grab a normal cutlery fork, and whenever you see them on the side-crunch the little buggers. Your fish will love them once their shells are broken.

Some snails are really resistant to things that should kill them. My apple snail's been through copper treatments a few times and he's none the worse for the wear. The snails need something to eat, so if they're multiplying too much, you're feeding too much. Some snails is good, in that they'll eat excess food, but too much food means too many snails, so reducing feeding is the first best step.

Loaches were already mentioned - unless you have a really big tank, I wouldn't get clown loaches. A suitable loach will keep the snail numbers under control, but might not wipe them out entirely - there'll probably still be some snails eating excess food and feeding the loaches.

If there's a whole lot of them, put some lettuce or cucumber in the tank overnight. Check it early in the morning, and it should be covered in snails. Take the lettuce and throw the snails out with it.

If you do want to entirely eradicate them (which, IMO, is only necessary unless they're destroying plants), I'd use a combination of the above methods get their numbers as low as possible, and a snail killer only to finish off the last few persistent stragglers. If you poison the whole lot at once, you risk an ammonia spike as they all start to decompose.

i cant bear to kill anything! so i take out the larger snails weekly and throw them in a big water butt outsid, they seem to be having fun in there........(!)

tank only small so loach out as quite full already, have moved out my olive snails to sort out the little buggers that are blocking filter etc
have been cutting back on food and squahing with old chopstick but cant do this forever,
thanks for tips

Theres a type of snail out called an Assassin Snail that eats other snail's, breeds slowly-and when it does breed, they have value so you stand to make a few £ out of it.

I've not tried them but theres a thread about it tropical discussion.

Zebra Loach (Botia striata) small fish and wipes them off the planet ! I have only 2 in my 4 footer, and zero snails !
