Well, I am keeping the rekord 120.

I am just not sure what to do with it yet.

Am caught between an african tank (but need to do lots of reading, as know little about them) or just one pair of average size cichlids - this is where I need suggestions. What can you think of that would go well in this as a species tank.

Blue acaras, firemouths, rainbow cichlids? Would lvoe jack dempseys, but its just not big enough :-(

What has the most character that I could put in here? Keeping in mind, I would prefer a pair.

I do like them, but where do I get them?

severums. But is a 40 inch long tank going to do?

Severums will get way to big for a 120 litre tank, they need a 240 litre and up. and thats just for one adult

If you cant find any sajica's in your area, why dont you look for online fish buying site, are you in uk ?

Just looked on trimar and they have sajicas...

not having a lot of luck though. The fish that really appela either turn out ot be too large, or are not available to buy anywhere.

Always liked the rainbow cichlid (Herotilapia multispinosa) but can't find them anywhere. Same as aequidens metae...

What are sajicas and blue acaras like for personality?

Another consideration I am having is to move all asian fish (loaches, rainbows, harlequins, etc) to the 120 and keep the 70 gallon corner tank as a south american cichlid community.

However, not sure of the practicality of the community I had in mind. I was thinking my pair keyholes and a group of up to maybe 8 angels, along with a pair of mesonauta festivus. Would that work with a couple of cories and bristle noses?

By pair do mean a breeding pair ? , In that size tank i would have a max of 6 angels with the keyholes and festvums, if the angels, keyholes and festivums wanna breed there is going to be lots of agression, and could in up someone getting killed, although these fish are not very agressive, I would maybe go for either a pair of keyholes or festivums(i would prefer festivums) and then 6 angels, and some other fish like cories or bn's

I was told in a previous post to try and go for a group of 10 angels if I could (currently 4 juvies). So I was just questioning the possibility of going for fewer angels and getting festivums to go with them.

I only consider this as most info I read says the two fish are compatible and with similar temperament. As people suggest large groups of angels to even out any aggression would this not apply to adding festivums in place of a couple of angels?

Or would the aggression be increased due to them being different species?

As for whether they would be breeding pairs or not... well that is entirely up to the fish. I will have no idea what sexes I would get, or currently have - apart from the keyholes.Had them for some time. No idea how old they are as they were fully grown when I got them. They have spawned previously in a smaller tank than this and not been overly aggressive to smaller tank mates. Never got eggs to hatch though...

Edit: It is not that I am determined to mix all these fish in these numbers. I am just asking as many questions as possible to gain as much of an understanding as possible to help me make the best possible decision as to how to stock my tanks. And I just rad my previous post where I was considering 8 angels with keyholes and festivums - yeah, that would be a bit much.

i have a big male sajica hes the dominent fish of the tank , he kicks the juwel cichlid males ass, and he had about 200 fry with a blue eye cichld and the babies are doing great. i would of rather they were both the same species but oh well.
i think keeping a pair of them would be interesting.
you could try to breed firemouths, i am currently attempting to.
good luck.

God, I can't believe how hard it is to work this oou and decide...

Ok, festivums and angels... no. Will stick with just getting more angels for the 70.

Still not sure what to do with the 120 now.... do I go with something like the sajicas or aequidens pulcher? I think it would be nice to get a cichlid that is not overly common these days, but is not overly aggressive. Sajicas can be quite rough I believe. Pulchers I have read are quite laid back. Or I could go with the festivums in that tank, but it might be a little small.

I suppose there is always the option of a harem of apistos.

This must be frustrating for people to read... thanks for the input so far guys. You have suggested some nice fish and talked me out of making some big mistakes.

i've read that aequidens pulcher can be aggressive to quite a strong level. i don't no if they mix well with mesonauta festivus. the aequidens pulcher's if you get a pair are ment to spawn easliy but i have no experience with that side of them. i've heard of them growing up to 8 inches but i doubt most reach that size. i've also seen them only recommenned for tanks of 150l i duno if thats true though.but they are a great looking fish
