I have four young kribs (about 3 months old) along with their mother in a 55 gallon (with congo tetras and catfish.)

Everything is very peaceful at the moment but I'm wondering how long that will last.

At what point (ie -- age or size) will they try to breed -- assuming there's a mixture of males and females?

Also, let's say there are 3 males and 2 females (one of which is the female parent) -- can I just take out one sex -- so that there are just females in one tank and males in another? Are they aggressive towards each other if the opposite sex is not around?

I really do not want to breed them as it disrupts the tank. The poor little upside down cats took a beating last time and they are all happy and healed now and I want to keep them that way! But I'd also like to keep my babies!

I'm not really sure about all of your questions but at one of the display tanks in a mall near me they have a 100 gallon tank which they keep angel fish, rainbow fish, SAE's, plecos and kribs in it. They actually have at least 10-15 male and female kribs in the tank. It's been set up like this for 6 months+ and everytime I look at the tank all of the fish are getting along no torn fins or anything. I wouldn't say it's heavily planted but there are some big pieces of wood and a bunch of live plants.

I only kept a pair of kribs in a 30 gallon for less than a week because they decided to spawn and the male went on a killing spree killing my diamond tetras so I decided to give the pair of kribs to my lfs.

I'm sure someone will come along and will be able to answer all your questions :)

I have two juveniles from a spawn last year. The female adult died and the young are a female and a male. The adult male, the dad, chases the other two but hasnt done anything too aggressive. I think they tolerate their own siblings but only to a certain degree. The size of tank may have a bearing as they can get away easily from the dad. My tank is 39" long and is fine for those three. Theres no sign of any breeding as the little female is just starting to show her red belly. As for the juveniles then they get along quite well and i havent seen any dominance fighting at all.
