everytime i stick females into breeding traps in the 'breeding' tank with the males... they jump out... i have a spare 8 gallon tank... i heard that females get aggressive together... but what i have heard is that. if you buy 2 ... they might kill each other... if u buy 3... 2 bigger will kill smaller... but i fyou buy 4... they will 2v2 and be alright... anyone know much about this..

i thought about keeping 4 females in the 8 gallon to get em in breeding shape for some of my males... 2 males have big bubblenests... 1 is kinda mental i think.. and im getting another male tomorrow...

any info on the female situation?

My lfs said that it can be betta (sorry) to keep more females as, if your male gets particular fruity, he isn't concentrating his affections on one poor lady, but just being a general nuisance to a few, lessening any individual stress. He also said if a female isn't in the mood she'd let him know about it!

But I am looking to get my Betta some wives also, so I'd be interested to hear from the experts how many they recommend!

Sorry, just re-read your message and realised you weren't planning on keeping them with a male anyway - d'oh! :*)

My lfs had several in a tank together and they looked happy.

I'll shut up...

I have 4 fems in my 46 gal tank right now and it is working out fine. 3 of them were together in one of my divided 10 gal tanks, but I moved them to the bigger tank when I got another male. Anyway...I also heard "2 will fight til the deather, 3 will pick on each other, 4 is the better way to go".

I have a 10 gallon that I've been keeping nothing but female bettas in for two years... I've had between two and five in it at any given time, and what I've observed is that any number can live together peacefully once they have established a pecking order. Whenever I'd add a new female, she and the other females would generally have an initial quarrel or two... sometimes bad enough to result in a little fin ripping, but usually nothing so serious. After a couple of days the order would be reestablished and they'd happily live together without any nipping at all. I only have three in the tank right now, and they're getting along just fine. :)

I have 2 split in a 3 gallon. male on one side and two females on the other. It's only 2 days old but so far they are getting along great. The one female is less then half the size of the one but I think that's why they are getting along because the bigger one doesn't see the smaller as a threat. The little one follows her around and she doesn't care. She is just always staring at the boy next door.

hm.. well.. im tryin to decide what to do .. i got a 10 gallon.. and an 8 galllon... i made a divider but no water gets to one side of it... and that side.. today.. the female got ick.... i think a 10 gallon is too big to let 1 pair breed in... maybe i should keep the males in 1 gallon thingies.... put all the females in the 8 gallon.... and when i think theyre rdy for some breeding, move a male into the 8 gallon with the maybe 4 females... does that sound alright?.. i dont think my divider making skills are good enough yet... cant get water to other side... bah.. now i have to think about how to treat the ick aswell....i guess ill leave them in the circulated side of the 10, and treat them all together... since thats probably the only way they will have circulation and a heater which i know are essential for treating ick... ive been havin bad luck lately with my bettas :(

i guess i could put them in my 3 gallon to breed.... bah all i know is i better go treat the tank now before the ick spreads.. only like 5-6 spots on 1 female.... but ill treat everyone :S

so much work.. just cleaned out this 10 gallon 2 days ago.. now its got ick so ill have to completely clean it out again... fried all my fish in my 8 gallon so it too needs completely cleaned... and the 3 gallon has been inactive full of nasty water for about a month... i got a lot of cleaning coming up this weekend .. but its all for the bettas ..

any info on my questions above would be great .. i donno what to do
