ive recently had a huge disaster using chemical algae control in my convict tank (lost all my fry and parents even nearly went :() anyhoo, i had put a couple of snails in there and this morning i added a BN. i have been watching the tank non stop since i put it in and all seems to be ok but then i was thinking what about when they spawn again?? id the BN goes too close to where they are, what will happen?

if a BN isnt going to be ok long term, how do you deal with algae in the convict tanks???

What type of algae is it first of all?

You could just clean it off yourself. Or treat the source of the algae, e.g. too much light.

The BN should be fine however, they are armoured catfish and when attacked by the convicts will just move off.

its the kinda algae thats sorta light brown and grows in little furry bits that sway in the current lol its not the green algae

If it is the type of algae jayjay is talking about, try nerite snails. They are probably the best biological treatment for this type of algae and should be ok with the convicts: they move so slowly the convicts probably wont realise they are alive :shifty: .

The best way to remove algae is the free way! with good old elbow greese! get in their and clean your tank, do your water changes and do your best to keep it out of direct sunlight :good: I get customers that come in and spend $$$$$ on plecs, UV sterilizers, chemical algae control, etc. I always recomend you do your best physically befor you spend a bunch of money. Im sorry to hear about your cons though.

i personally leave it in there, but then again i get green algae on the glass. I think it helps them to be "at peace" and feel mroe "enclosed" then they really are.

Just me, I put in a pleco or snails when it gets too bad, I remove the pleco before hte next spawn and all is well, the pleco goes back into his tnak and he loves it.
