I have a filter that hangs on the back of the tank and pulls in water through a tube. The tube has it's own "grating" on it, but I find smaller fish, like Tetras are getting sucked and stuck to it. Is there anything you might recommend, short of getting a pump in a separate tank that is drain fed, so there is no suction?

Thanks in advance for any help.

just put a pair of tights over the tube it will slow down the intake. keep doubling the layers of tights until they stop being sucked in

Slide a piece of filter sponge with a hole poked in it over the intake. It will diffuse the flow without plugging as often as tights or screen. It also adds that much more to your bio filtration.
