Well I spawned Keaper and his sister but things went slighty off course

She had been in the chimney for a couple of days. I released her the first night just for an hour during which he was a complete git to her and took a chunk out of her anal fin. She was returned to the chimney and last night purely by luck we saw her start releasing eggs, so quickly let her out. They did the most amazing dance under the invisible nest (he'd not quite managed to build one yet) and with a few encouraging nudges from her, he started to wrap her.

It went on for a couple of hours and once again I had to syphon up as many eggs as I could before they got munched. I've got a fair few floating in the tub and fingers crossed they are looking good so far. None have turned yellow like they last batch did.

Here are the parents. They are actually brother and sister to Kimono & Kizzy that we spawn the other week.

Aw cuties! Hope they hatch you'll have so many gorgeous babies! third generation too!

Thanks Tilly....I think these guys carry quite strong genes so hopefully it'll be passed down to the next generation. This next lot of babies will be F2s. Will hopefully get to F3s by the end of this year and hoping that the butterfly gene shows up in some of them. Keaper is the first I've bred with the white banding like his Dad Taro and also Neptune (Keaper's brother) that Sarette has, has the banding too.

LOL at the invisible nest  How many eggs you got from them then Netty? Anyone else finding the forum suuuper slow today??

*fingers crossed*

I think I managed to suck up approx 50 eggs. Will know more tomorrow night when they should start hatching out.

Yep the forum is worse than slow. It's taken an hour just to get the page up lol

Ah a nice few then :) so the eggs only take 24hours to hatch? I've decided to take over my garage by the way :D Nice biig space to play in (and heat :( )

Thought it was just me, restarted router few times lol :(

They spawned early last night and it's usually up to 48hrs that they start hatching. Depends alot on the temp of the water. The higher the temp the sooner they hatch.

A whole garage.........you lucky thing :hyper: I'm determined to get something sorted with our shed this summer or maybe set up a corner in our reptile room. Nice and warm in there anyway.

Just do what we do and don't look at the electric bill

Ahh right! I'm sure they're in good hands with you two :good:

Just looking for the best (and cheapest!!) way to heat it lol, 3kw oil filled seem to suck up an awful lot of electric, garage is quite big see..20ft or more long by about 10 wide :S maybe a couple of cheap convector or fan heaters would do the trick..il weigh it up and see :) anyway dont want to take over your thread, i may start a new one when things get moving in the garage :hyper:

I usually close my eyes will bills arrive btw

Maybe if you sectioned off a bit just for babies it wouldn't be so hard to heat. You could have a little room within the garage

Go Keaper! Dan is so excited, he has wanted to steal Keaper for a long time, so I think he is absolutely determined to get a male or two from the spawn providing all goes well and there are indeed males!

Gosh how exciting!! Love the close up of Keaper, I can see how Jasper is related to him! Gorgeous colours.

Fingers crossed for the eggs! xxx
