Ok, so even though I have MTS, hubby hates them, and has made me an offer I cannot refuse!!! :hyper:

I can sell my 40 ltr and 120 ltr (both tropical) and upgrade to a larger tank instead of both smaller ones.

I am probably going to get the Juwel Vision 180, but do not want the internal filter it comes with. I have an Eheim Ecco 2236 running on my 120 ltr and will be using that (it does 300 ltrs). Has anyone else removed the internal filter, and is it easy enough to get the silicone residue off the glass?

Also, does anyone know if Eheim do pipework in any colour other than green???? I would rather have black.

i founbd it easy enough to remove the filter it wan not secured all around liek i expected but it had 2 small black stick pads on the back holding it up just got a butter knife down ther and eased it of so i dident scratch the glass :)

best hope thats yours turns out the same then lol d:D most standard filters that come with tanksseem easyenough to remove just be careful and dont get to rough also use a blunt knife like a butter knife or if you do need to remove scylicone use the sharpest blae u can find and be careful, semi shar blade tend to snag and cause you to slip

good luck with ya new tank mate :)

ir anouther alterniatve is buy 1 second hand alot cheaper and normally already had the standard filters out tho u may have to look around a bit :) but there is always a good deal to be had with second hand tanks

Hi,

They sure do - you can get Eheim Installation Sets in a black/grey colour (to fit either 12mm or 16mm) - got them at www.aquatics-online.co.uk/catalogue/eheim-intakes-outlets-spray-bars-etc.asp

:good:

I replaced the juwel filter in my rio 180 yesterday, the cannister was hel on by 4 blobs of a putty type substance on the back of the tank, it took about 5 mins to remove. The tank looks a lot better without the big black thing. I would reccommend getting rid of it.

removed the internal from my vision 180 3 weeks ago, as has been said 5 min job , makes a big difference , i was surprised how much bigger it made the tank look once removed ..

just thought i would mention that pets at home do the vision 180 for £299 just in case you were gonna spend a little more :good:

Depending on how recent the tank is some of the newer Juwels have double the amount of silicon blobs as before.

I was thinking of suggesting a petition to Juwel asking for them to sucker the boxes on and not silicon

I took one out of the rekord 60

One little tip that might help is keep the knife you are going to use in some boling water, it helps weaken the silicon to get it off easier :good:

Why buy a tank which comes fitted with a filter you are paying for just to remove it and not use it?

I recomend looking at the Rena selection of tanks which come with external filters as a standard and are a much higher build standard with top quality electricals, they are a little more expensive but you are getting a lot more for your money.

Or if hubby or someone in the family is a bit handy with the DIY then buy a plain glass tank of the dimensions you want and get them to build you a stand and hood to go with it, it seems and awfull waste of money to buy a juwel kit when all you actually need is the tank, especially when juwel have such substandard equipment.

If you haven't ordered your tank yet, I will agree with CFC. Now that I have a Rena, I will (probably) never go back to Juwel.

I am pushing it already with spending money on this tank. I am getting it for £270 (a good price I think!), and the Rena tanks are much more expensive than that. There is no way he will allow me to spend that much!
