Juwel Trigon 190

How long does it tank for a plant to attach its roots to bogwood?

When should I remove the string?

Just leave the string attached, often the roots with grow over it. If you tried to remove the string it would pull it off, I found that out with moss..

LETS SEE SOME MORE PICS :)

I used to use black cotton but sometimes I found this began to disintegrate before the plant had fully attached.  Now I use fine brown fishing line which obviously stays put.

New filter came today, I call it the beast lol

update....
stone henge has gone because the flow rate of the new filter was making a mess with the sand round that area,
also the stones are now on the left. ive made a tomb with them, there are fish hiding in side. it was for any fry I get from the guppies but that failed as other fish can get in any way lol.

moved bogwood and all plants to the back for a more dense natural look. ive found where I can get java moss, so getting java moss tomorrow to attach along the top of the bog wood, also still looking for the right carpet plants to go along the front of the planted area....

Looks nicer now and well done for getting a bigger tank. The fish, especially the angels will LOVE it.  If you wanting to go more heavily planted.. I would recommend a foreground plant like micro or standard chain sword. It gives a great sense of depth/scale and is easy to grow :)

Looking forward to seeing the angels and tank develop!!

UPDATE

after lost a load of fish a few months back I had to start new and decided to go with a lake Tanganyika cichlid setup.
had to get a whole load of rock to replace all the plant (except that lovely one on the bogwood)
sand is still so white, im surprised.
enjoy.

as you can see in the first pic I had it all wrong,

got the rocks right as much as I could making 2 walls, one bigger than the other creating lots of territories  at different levels and creating a break in the line of sight.

this cave is completely hollow and I layed pieces of slate on the sand inside .this will serve as a nice spawning site for 2 adult cichlids.

the fish above is a Lamprologus Ocellatus, a shell dweller. however I have 3 different shells and it has decided to make that craves a home lol

I liked both your different set ups.

Interesting for me as I currently have a Trigon 350 thats in storage in the garage at the moment until we move to a bigger place as our 2 bed flat is too small for this tank! lol

And have been wondering what sort of set up I will put in that when the day finally arrives. So your thread has given me one or two ideas already!

Thanks. Can only wish I had a 350 lol, or a nice big 6ft long tank. I think I need more colour in there. The cichlids will show a lot of colour in the next few months

Love the cichlid set up, really well done.
