Hi folks,

Has anyone got a Juwel Trigon 190 Aquarium and if so are you happy with it? What sort of thing do you like most about it and what things are not so great?

Reason I am asking is because this is the tank I have chosen for our lounge and wanted to get some feedback from curent owners.

Thanks in advance. :)

Mark

I was going to get one but i got the vision 180 instead as it fitted the space better. Juwel tanks are great but i have found that the heaters are a bit tricky to set to the right temp also the lights that come as standard aren't too great for growing plants i have put reflectors on mine and when they eventually blow i will buy better ones.

The only downside i can see with the trigons is getting access to the filter with it being in the back corner, as the tanks are quite deep anyway i have to stand on a chair to reach the bottom of my Rio 400 and then the water comes up to my armpit.

i haven't got a trigon but a vision260 and juwel are really good tanks and a great filter system. haha i need a chair to get into mine aswell

That all depends on what you are keeping in them, if you have a planted tank with just a few small fish then the filters are great as this is what they were designed for, if not then you may have problems in the future.
Juwel tanks are designed for the continental European hobby where focus is placed on aquascaping and plants rather than fish which is much different from the English/American hobby where the fish are usually the focus and the decore is just added around them. Because of this Juwel filters fail miserably when it comes to keeping heavily stocked communities or larger fish as they just cannot cope with the ammount of waste. I have two Juwel tanks and have removed the integral filter from both as they simply were not up to the job and caused no end of problems with high nitrates due to sludge build up inside the filter box, i thouroughly recomend that anyone who has a Juwel tank regularly removes all the media from the filter box and cleans inside the box with their syphon to remove any trapped dirt and sludge.

I totally agree. I've finally ripped out my internal Juwel filter - (it could probably have remained in there working in conjunction with an external, but I just didn't like the huge black unsightly box either) and replaced with external Eheim. Bliss :D

I've heard rave reviews about the Juwel aquariums and, I must say, they wlays look nice. Maybe they should start marketing them in the U.S. They are probably better quality than the All-Glass brand that is commonplace over here (not knocking them, I have 4 of that brind right now).

Thanks for the replys.

So how much am I looking at roughly for an external filter that will be up for the job and also will it be ok to run the internal and external at the same time?

I run externals alongside the juwel internals. Prices for externals vary.....but the eheim classics are a great filter at a not too expensive price. You would need a 2215,I believe for a trigon 190.(approx £65)
I used to have a trigon 190.....loved every minute of it....so much so that I upgraded to a trigon 350. It doesn't actually take up that much more space....and I got it at a nice price on e-bay. :fun:

Thanks Chali, I will look into those externals once I am ready to introduce fish to the tank.

You could also go for a Eheim Professional 2224 (£94 media & postage included). I have this running on my Vision 180 and it's bliss ! I removed my unsightly Juwel black box though.

I have a Trigon 190, I have had it for more than a year and am very happy with it. At the moment I only have 2 breeding pairs of angels and a 5 inch C.A.E. I have had no problems with the filter except for the fact that the C.A.E. excavates all the gravel out from under the box. :)
