Juwel Tank Help Required

hey all

sorry if this has been asked before,but i cant find thew answers i need

im replacing my vicenza 260 tank with a juwel rio 400.

im not to keen on the internal filter,can it be easliy removed without noing it was ever there?


reason im not to keen on them is i have no expericance in an internal filter at all,and also my fluval 405 external is mature.

if i kept the internal how long would it take for it to get mature if i ran it in conjucntion with my fluval 405?

Yes they can easily be removed, once removed use somthing to take off the silicone and you wont know it was there.

You will need more than the 405 on that size tank, so running both until you can afford either to upgrade the 405 or add another external would be a good idea, it will take approx 4 weeks to mature, depending on stocking levels.

upgrade the 405!! what to?

could i use the 405 that is mature,and the internal at the same time,and after say 2 months remove the 405 and just use the internal?

the internal in there must be able to cope with the amount of water surely,or they wouldnt of put it in there?

If its a fairly light stocking then yes, it could cope, just, doesnt give much water movement though IMO (I have the rio 400).

TBH for a tank this size, a fluval FX5, tetratec ex2400 (or two ex1200), eheim 2080 or something equivalent on its own, or the 405 plus the internal will be fine.

I currently run the internal alongside a eheim 2217 (did use a TT ex1200 on it) and it just about copes with the bio load, albeit its fairly heavily stocked with cichilds, I will be upgrading to most likely an eheim 2080 soon though as I want to remove the internal and just run a single filter.
