Hi. It's possible I could e getting the above tank for Xmas and its got me thinking about stocking ideas. I would like a few shoals of fish with a main stand out fish in it ideas that I like:
Shoals:
Pearl danios
Neon/cardinal tetras
Corys
Guppies

Non shoaling:
Swordtails
Bristle nose plecs
Red tail black sharks
Dwarf honey gouramis

Main fish:
2-3 discuss (maybe to breed)

Other tank mates:
Variety of shrimp. Mainly blood shrimp.
Apple snail

Any good suggestions of stocking from that list?

Thanks

The Juwel Rio 180 is approximately 40 gallons I believe? If so, you could do 12 neon tetras, 6 peppered cories, a bristlenose plec, and then 2 discus. Also, I believe blood shrimp are marine inverts. Apple snails are awesome, but discus like soft, acidic water and that will degrade the shell of any snail.

They are marine ha sorry I meant cherry shrimp. I thought I'd be able to stock more than that?

Discus are a no-go as far as i am concerned. Not only would many people argue this tank is too small for them anyway but they must also be kept in shoals and are extremely delicate, the entire tank would need to be dedicated to them. Discus are really not a fish that should be added in on top of the stocking of a tank, Discus should be the real focus of the tank with perhaps some Corydoras and a shoal of tetras (only a select few species) if there is plenty of space. Most people I know of who keep Discus also use RO water and therefore supplement with minerals and other vital things.

Yeah, Tuxyu makes a good argument. If you want a centerpiece fish, look at bolivian rams. Hardy, adaptable, colorful, and peaceful. :)
