I am thinking of upgrading the lighting in my Rio 400. I know that Juwel do an upgrade which consists of a second light bar and some new plastic cover flaps. Anyone have any idea as to where I can get these from? I've Googled myself to death looking for them. Also, do you know if the flaps can be bough separately as I'd prefer to us two I bars with T5 lamps if possible.

Cheers,

WK

PM Chris_Wood. He has done an upgrade on his Rio 125 which Ive also done. He's better at explaining it though than me.

An upgrade kit is always going to be more expensive than just going a DIY job with a new ballast and reflector. What size are the tubes?

EDIT - Just seen 36w 48" tubes. You can either get more of the same or perhaps get T5 lighting? can get 46" 54w tube, that would be more beneficial than one more 36w. Try aquatics-online, they do lighting, reflectors and ballasts/starters.

Yea, the juwel upgrade options are very expensive,

you can upgrade the lighting for cheaper, use some power compact t5s,

Hi Waterloo,

Just get an additional dual ballast and secure the lights to the current ones using tube clips, the added weight is negligable and it will all sit neatly under the current flaps!

Should cost c. £40 inc. new tubes! :D

See my thread 'my planted Juwel RIO125' on members pictures for more details and photos of the installation!

The added benefit of the second ballast is that you can turn the two sets of tubes on and off at different time so that the lights going on and off is not ssoooooooooooo stresful for the fish! :S

Hope this helps! :good:

Good point

Dubby,
Yes, I think so. I can't see the website correctly as I'm behind a corperate firewall (nothing in, nothing out) but from what broken German I know that's the stuff.

Thanks to everyone else for their help. My problem is that I sometimes already run two 54W T5 bulbs under the flaps but I find it messy and awkward to maintain. I was looking for a neater solution. At that price I might just try to neaten my existing arrangement.

Thanks all,

WK
