Hi all - help needed....
I have a Juwel aquarium which was all working fine until the lights went out yesterday. When I switched them back on they stayed on for about 5 seconds before going out again.
As this has happened on another tank I decided to buy 2 new lightbulbs. After changing both tubes and turning the lights back on it seemed to work fine but some 10 seconds later the lights went out again.
If I try again 30 seconds later the same thing happens. As the bulbs are brand new it cannot be this that is the problem.
Can anyone shed any light on the reason why this is happening (sorry...).

Sounds like it might be the ballast - and if that's the case it's bad news I'm afraid. I had to pay £50 for a new one for my Juwel Vision 180. My shops tested it out for me (the plug and fuse as well) before pronouncing it dead.

The rubber seal for the florescent tube is probably worn out and the electrical contact is wet. Try letting the contacts dry out.

Experienced the same problem and was told that the ballast was faulty. So I bought a new lighting unit. Tested the old lighting unit just recently (after leaving it in the store room for several weeks) and it was working fine.
