People keep saying that their Juwel Light units have blown, do they mean that the bulbs need replacing or that the unit has stopped working? Thanks, because I'm getting a Lido for xmas and I want to know.

sometimes the unit itself blows. if less than a year old Juwel replace these FOC (except postage).
any new juwel tank (T5 units not T8) should have this problem sorted.

depends on what you mean by 'last'
I had one customer that brought in his old T12 tube to get a replacement.
he purchased the T12 in 1979 and it had just blown.
however its original spectrum had long gone.

it is recommended that tubes are replaced yearly (6 monthly if a heavily planted tank)
to keep the light levels at their optimum spectrum

Then dont keep a highly planted tank, there are some things in this hobby you cannot scrimp on and the right lighting for plants is one of them.

If its just fish you keep they couldnt care less what lighting they have as long as they have a night and a day.
