I like this, its great for doing water changes usually, jam the hose down the side of the heater, when its empty enough, I fill buckets and pour them straight into the filter to avoid disturbing plants, sand etc. This time I was too gung ho with the filling part. I managed to dislodge the filter pads with the result that the contents of the filter, ie 1 weeks worth (at least, of accumulated muck is all resting nicely on the bottom of my tank. Lesson learned - Change filter media before refilling, and pour more slowly.

Still on this filter (bio-filter 6 btw), does anyone know of an easy way to lessen the outflow. There doesn't seem anyway to control this. I like some flow but would prefer it to be less than what it is now.

What media are you changing?

Apart from some chemical stuff like carbon and fine floss or wool, most media needs rinsing in tank water and otherwise leaving along.

I only change the cheap mat on top, I swill out the sponges, one per waterchange, and swap the old cottonwool like pad one for a new one.

Are you using a spraybar? If so, try mounting it vertically in the tank and point it towards the back. The flow will be the same but will not be so fast in any particular direction.

I'm not using a spray bar, I'm just using the nozzle that comes with the tank. I thought about partly blocking it off, but I suppose that would affect the intake too? I'll look into the spray bar thing. Its just a personal preference of mine that I don't like a strong current.

If you use a spray bar kit you can drill more holes in it and/or make the existing holes bigger which will diffuse the flow through the tank. You can drill the holes out to about 3mm and still get water coming out of all the holes and flow will seem to be much reduced without actually reducing general water flow through the filter. I did this when I had a Juwel Lido 120 and it worked perfectly.
