I know this question has been asked before, i just couldnt find the answer in a search, im having a problem with the built in light over a juwel tank, it keeps flickering, so the question is......do they have a starter or do i have to replace something more major than that.........ive a funny feeling its something more major if memory serves me correct from the previous threads.

So if anyone has any ideas id appreciate it if they could let me now.......thankyou

I pretty sure you have to replace the whole thing unfortunately. You've checked out the tubes obviously?

edit - which model Juwel? I'm assuming a Rio 125 or bigger, I'm not sure on the smaller models.

Thanks for the reply, its only a small tank a Reckord 60, its the only juwel tank i have, i bought it in a sale on impulse at a knockdown price, i needed a tank in a hurry at the time, its less than a year old so it may be covered by a warrenty but i just wanted to check if it was a major or minor problem, and i have not got a clue where the receipt is so i will have to do a major search for that as well, its just unfortunate the tank is in a very dark position and gets no daylight, there are some plants in it but nothing i would really worry about, i have a lamp rigged up beside it so the fish get some light for feeding etc.

But i have a feeling you are correct that the whole thing may have to be replaced so if anybody else could confirm this i would appreciate it.

try a different bulb :D

also, just a suggestion, but if it does turn out to be the controller. you can 'gut' out the internal block that holds the control unit in the hood. This way you can buy a third party controller, save money and keep the perfectly good hood, and also have more space to put an extra light(s) if need be :hey:

itll be the buld tho :p

Naw definatly not the tube i had replaced the tube only a while ago to one of a better spectrum for plants and had kept the old one, basically that one flickers as well when i stuck it back in the hood.

But you have me thinking.......does the tube flicker or should it just die with no light whatsoever if the controller is faulty or broken?.......maybe it might be something else ill double check the light fittings etc........thanks anyway.

From my experinece you'll have to replace then whole thing :( I had one (approx 2 years old) that filickered and then died entirely. As you can't open those things, the only option is to replace it.

Try contacting Juwel directly though. I think for my Juwel 180 it cost something like £50 to replace :X
