I have a Juwel High-Lite light unit on my tank with a daylight tube and nature tube that came with it. But they make my tank seem kinda dull and slightly yellow, (even thought ive recentley added some light reflectors), so i want to change the nature tube to a different one. But ive looked around and they're quite expensive

Does anyone know were i can get them cheaper ??? Also, is it only Juwel High-Lite tubes that will fit into my unit ? Ive tried looking at other branded bulbs but cant find my size ... id need a 590mm 28w T5.

Thanks.

Juwel and Hagen have both made their units, such that only their tubes fit their units, by making the units what we in the trade call b***ard (non-standard) lengths. Therefore you are stuck with the Hi-light tubes for your unit I'm afraid, unless you wish to replace the lot. Standord T5 tubes are about £15 at that length, but as Juwel have a nice monopoly going on there, they may be somewhat more expencive.

All the best

Darn... ok thanks for the info. So im stuck with Juwel only then... at least i only need one tube.

What would be the best light unit to buy then if i was to replace ?

So 50gal and 40" long. Sorry to say, but I'm not familiar with juwel tanks. So I have no clue what your hood looks like, or what the common types of lights are used over there. But I suggest a retrofit kit or buy your own parts if you are up to it. Either a common type of T8 bulbs like 36" or if you want some nice live plants I would go for 2x55watt compact fluorescents. If I was doing it I would probably gut the hood and put my own lights in it. Just leave the on/off switch, you can use that, but that is if you are willing to do some DIY.

I think in your situation, I'd scrap the hood completely, and get an overhead luminare. These are more flexible, and use standard parts, thus easy to change :good: However, jumpy fish would be a no-no, as you would have no cover -_- It's a bit of a trade off, but Juwel don't have ample stress bars to place cover glasses on

You could easily do what has been suggested, it would only take a quick trip to BnQ and pick up a sheet of clear plastic or glass and then cut to shape :)
