hi
i have a juwel 70, and the heater turned as low as it will go , the temp is 29 c. is this too high for my tropical tank? it is a degree or so above the green bit on the thermometer. i have a spare 50w heater , the one in the tank at the min is 100w, will this be alright to use? or is 29 degrees ok/
sorry for the ramble but i`m a bit of newb tbh.
cheers

i am not an expert but have been told that if water is to warm can make your fish more aggresive personaly i would change my heater

its too hot. i would use the 50w but dont change the water temp quickly. do it quite slow

Hotter water = less oxygen in the water = more surface agitation/oxygenation required :good:

I would say that is a little too hot but would be ok for fishless cycling if you need to do it?

Hallo!

What kind of fish do you have?

Maybe you don´t need a heater in the spring and summer, because the temperature in your romm is ok.

I don´t need a heater in my tanks from April to September/October. The temprerature in my rooms is 22° C an in my tanks 23-24° C. That´s enough!

50w should be ok as the weather is getting warmer now, a 50w heater in your tank is more likely to go wrong as it will be working twice as much as a 100w heater. You will probably need a 100w heater when we get to autumn/winter. I've had alot of problems with juwel heaters over the last year.

thanks, i put the 50w heater in last night and its now running at 23 c. so i`ll see how it goes for now. probably pick a new 100w one up in the next week or so. can i use any type? and can can i put it in the box in the corner like the juwel one i`ve got.
cheers

I might be missing something here, but surely no matter what the wattage of the heater it still won't heat the water above the temprature set on it. It should just do it quicker. Once the desired temprature is reached the heater turns off. If it's heating up to silly tempratures then in my mind it sounds like the heater is faulty. Or as I said, I may be missing some fundamental element of modern heater design.

Kind regards

Jimi
