Juwel 70 Planted Tank, But I Need More Lighting!

It is possibly the same lid as my Rekord60? A Monolux 60? I replaced the single 15w T8 with an Interpet Power Compact T5 for around £35 all-in.

I got a stanley knife and cut out the internal ballast, took me about 15 minutes. The PC tube came with clips and metal screws. I drilled two teeny pilot holes in the hood where I wished to place the reflector and screwed the clips through the reflector holes and into the pilot holes in the hood. The PC tube then clips into the clips and voila. 2.4wpg for me, probably closer to 2wpg for your tank. I'll try and do piccies for this sometime soon.

Cheers... I thought it could be just a change the tube kind of job...

Thanks again...

There is another way aswell. Search the topics done by BigC and craynerd. They have done the same mod as each other on their hoods, letting them both create fantastic tanks.

The other method, if I recall, is to bolt a second tube into the front of the lid. The main reason I didn't go for that option is that the hood is already front heavy in respect to the lighting and plants grow too much towards the front (instead of upwards) so another light at the far front of the lid (for me anyhow!) would not have helped. It is the easiest route though, buy, screw, light. Simple :) Not too much in the cost though, still need tube, reflector and starter unit.

Piccy of my hood:

its a fatal trait in the jewel tanks it seems, in my Rio 125 i added a 3rd T8 and when i get some cash im going to swap out the T8 bulbs for T6's, use the same balasts and fit 100% just quite exspencive to buy 3 new bulbs about £50-20 in total so im going to wait a month or 2 then swap one then another 2 months then the next etc to lessen the costs and photosynthisis shock to plants,

Thanks, dudes... noshybabs - I noticed that you removed the entire back compartment of the juwel hood? How did you do it? Did you just cut through it or was there an easier way...

That was my hood :)

I just got a stanley knife and cut it all out.
