Yay! another bichir keeper

Love the picture! I've had a couple of bichirs from a small size and none have had the external gills on yet .

How big is it ?

He's six inches now and he's in our big tank with our other bichirs etc. We got him at just under two inches, and he was in our growing on tank with community fish; which he was rapidly reducing to zero even at that small size lol. His tank mates now include a pair of polypterus lapradei, p.ornatapinnis and other predators all ranging from aroound a foot upwards, and seems to be holding his own. We've managed to get him feeding on pellets and he's eating us out of house and home lol. What do you have?

my endlicheri is only about 4" and has already shed his external gills, must vary quite a lot from fish to fish, although one of my delhezi's had them until about 6" but not as pronounced as those on your endlicheri!
i have 3 poly's about 4", 1 delhezi, 1 ornatipinnis and the endlicheri and none have external gills, strange, can't wait until they reach about 6" and they can go into the 7 footer along with the 2 big delhezi's!
stunning fish, can't wait for mine to reach a decent size!!

We did have a delhezi that was about 12" but we had a tank burst so all that tanks inmates (lol) had to go in our big 7ft with an silver arrowana (@2.5ft) and a tiger shovelnose (@2ft fasciatum). Unfortunately the shovelnose took a liking to the bichir and promptly sucked it up! It was spat out a couple of days later after not being able to be digested; but it didn't survive the ordeal. (neither did the carpets when the tank burst lol)
