Just wondering

I think 6 is the absolute minnimum but it must vary from species to species. I also think they don't completely shut down their brains (or at least that this is the case for most species) so they don't realy 'sleep' like humans percieve sleep. Obviously, fish from the tropics preffer 12 hours of day/night because it's closest to what's natural but they also readily adapt to other schedules.

Don't no really, they take naps through the day, once the tanks light go out they tend to settle down and go to sleep.

I tend to stick to 12 hours of light in the tank - when the lights go out, my fishy friends slow down anyway - they get some light from the room anyway until beddy byes - and then the whole house is in snooze mode!! :p

I think a good eight hours would suffice. I keep my fish room lights on for twelve hours a day and as soon as I turn them off the bettas all flare for a minute then go to sleep,it's so cute  But on the other hand, I never see any of my cichlids sleep

i cover the front and the sides of my tank because the 4.4 gallon is in my room and even after i close my light my pc is switched on so there is all a light source (My betta needs his 6, 8, 12 or so hours of his beauty sleep) :D
