hey I picked up these two Cichlids a few months ago and I got thinking about what they are. They said the first was a female Jewel and the second I'm not really sure about. any help? thanks.

sorry about the blurryness

I can't really tell in the picture, but does his upper lip kind of overhand his lower lip? If so, it's probably a male Labeotropheus fuelleborni (Katale OB). If not it could be a m.zebra ob varient though they're not seen too often, at least not around here. :good:

Thanks, I have figured out the first is actually a new world blue Acara (talk about miss labeling)
the second I have been told is a OB sploch. Not really sure what the scientific name for that is and I haven't found much info on them. Here is another picture of him

I still can't quite tell, but I'm pretty sure it's Labeotropheus fuelleborni (Katale OB), hopefully Ferris will come along soon and verify. OB just means orange blotch which is a color varient in some species. :good:

The first pic is NOT a Jewel Cichlid. It looks South American. The second looks like some sort of OB Peacock.

I don't know kribensis, from the pics the face looks a little too blunt to be a peacock, at least to me, you might be right though.

It does have the bigger upper lip like you mentioned above.

Labeotropheus fuelleborni looks just like him. Mines has just alot less black on him but hey may come as he ages correct?
The OB red Zebra is hmm a little too orange I suppose?

With OB's the patterns can vary depending on the individual fish, so yours may not look exactly like the pic. :good:
