ok, so i've spent hours reading through some of the posts on the forum boards and spoken with someone on the facebook page but i'm now more confused than before i started.
Information overload i think.
so i decided to register and just ask outright about what i want to know rather than skimming bits of info here and there. i'll put a post up in the begginers section once i have all my info on equpment to hand but just wanted to pop this up to say Hi

Hi, thanks for the welcome :)
A wee quick history of my fishkeeping.
I used to keep goldfish about 10-15yrs ago, had my tank running for quite a few years, even had one incident of spawning but something wiped my tank out in a week and i was so gutted i chucked it all in the bin.
Recently i decided that i missed having my fish and set up a new goldfish tank. all going well so far.
In my many visits to my LFS and from seeing her stock post on FB i have decided to try my hand with a tropical tank as i have really liked some of the fish i've seen.
I just bought the tank and equipment on friday and have to wait 6days for the tank to cure before i can even wash it out before putting water in.
And so this adventure begins........

welcome to the forum! :) you will find priceless info from everybody here, I know I did :)

Make sure you do a fishless cycle before adding fish (details found in my sig).
What size did you buy?

What size tank are the goldfish in? I'd love to see some pics! :)

My goldfish tank is my pride and joy at the mo. For photos i have a public album on my facebook page, Its a 54"x18"x24", with an external filter that cycles 1500ltr per hr, a 300ltr air pump, LED light and live plants.
my tropical tank is 36"x15"x18". as for cycling it i was gona ask if i can jump start it off the gold fish tank? i didn't know if the change in temp would affect the bacteria needed. i could do it two ways, either, put the small internal filter in the goldfish tank and run it, or, use some of the media from the external filter in the internal?

Yes, you can use filter media from the Goldfish tank, the bacteria should be fine :)
Its probably better to put the media from the external into the internal. You can safely take up to 1/3 of the media.

Hi to all and thanks for the welcome :)

@ Blondie loves fish
using the media is not a problem as with the difference in size between the 2 filters means i'll only need to take about a tenth of the external's media to fill the internal, just means i'll skip the water change for the goldfish when i take it :)

The tank looks really nice! Love the rock line!
I'm afraid those white and green plants at the front aren't aquatic :/ they're a member of the Draecaena (spelling is something like that :p ) family. It will rot if you don't remove it :(

thanks blondie loves fish, the rock line hides the bubble rods but is nice for a wee bit deco too.
none of the plants last in the goldfish tank, cause the goldfish eat them or pull them up in the process of trying to eat them. Horace, the ranchu is the worst for it :)
