Hi there
I am new to keeping fish tho my husband kept tropical fish a good few years ago before we met....
Today we collected a 100 Gallon fish tank that we have been given and over the next few months we want to set it up to house tropical fish. Until today it housed 2 discus fish but they have been rehomed and its now empty awaiting cleaning...any suggestions and the like are very welcome.
In addition to this we also have 3 Corn Snakes (Ruby Sherbert and Alf) 3 Cats (Biggsy, Hooper and Wookey) and a totally barmy AkitaXGSD called Willow who is 10mths old and a psycho in training.......not forgetting aprox 200 gold fish small koi etc in 3 ponds in the garden....a ZOO!
We live Nr London in the UK.

Like I said any suggestions for setting it all up are welcome...I will of course be wandering the other topics and getting info there too.

Thanks for reading

Wanda & Kev :)

Hi Wanda
Welcome to the forums
Thats quite a collection of pets youve gathered
Great sized tank as well
Gives tons of different options.Your best bet is just to get it up and cycling and that will give you a while to decide on your fish. You should be able to get all the help you need here and by and large everyone is friendly :D

Hi Wanda and welcome to the forum. :hi:

100 gallons is a great tank to start with. It gives you a lot of options on fish. Read through the pinned topics at the top of each forum section. Also research the fish you like and see how big they get and which ones are compatible. As Weaver said, set the tank up and start a fishless cycle while you decide what fish you want. There is a link in my signature on 2 methods of doing a fishless cycle. It will make your life a lot easier at the start.

As for cleaning the tank, a mild water/bleach mixture will work well. About 20 parts water to 1 part bleach. Just make sure you get it rinsed well. If you're not comfortable using bleach, pure ammonia (no detergent, fragrances or surfactants) will work well to. And you don't have to worry too much about how well you rinse it as you will add ammonia to do a fishless cycle anyway. Good luck.
