Just Throw The Carbon Bag In?

I have a bag a carbon for my aquaclear 300 but since the tank is fully matured and fully planted i dont need so many. (i'll just keep 1 incase)

So i was wondering if i can just take the actual bag and throw it in my 90g to clear up the water a little. If it just sits at the bottom in no filter will it still do its job?

Just asking is all..........

Will need teh water circulating around it which means in the filter.

alright ill dump it in a powerhead filter thingy since the filter on the tank is a canister filter.
