Just Threw Some Plants In My Sand Tank...

Should I stick the plants into the sand or tie them down with rocks? Which is best and why? Also...since I have just sand at the bottom...what type of nutrients should I add to the water, if any?

Both of those questions will depend on the kind of plants you purchased. Can you give us a list?

I bought some amazon swords and kyoto grass.

Swords go in the substrate. Kyoto grass isn't an aquatic plant, I believe.

Plants like the amazon sword that have been put into the substrate would appreciate some form of root tabs.. ask at the LFS they will point you in the right direction. Other plants need to get their nutrients from the water, so will need some form of fertilisation. What and how much may depend on the lighting or CO2 situation.
