First of all i'd like to say hello! Just found the site and signed up straight away.
Me and my girlfriend have just bought ourselves a Big fish tank and plan on using it for tropical fish.

The tank is second hand and came with allot of stuff one of which is a Aquis 1000 External filter which looks like a great bit of kit. Although I do have a few questions about it.

When we set it up and got the pump hooked up and turned on everything was fine until I noticed a couple of drips from the valve connectors on the pump, so I figured i'll just tighten them up abit and it should be fine, it wasn't. They dripped abit more etc etc... So i turned the pump off and closed both valves and tried to unscrew the valves off the pump but as i'm doing this the water is still under so much preesure that it just wants to squirt out EVERYWHERE! This just kept on happening as the whole thing was just still preasurised.

Eventually i got them off but i had tons of water everywhere and had made an absolute mess. What i want to know is how you are meant to remove them without it being under preasure? Because surely they need to be unscrewed when cleaning the filter and if that's the case i don't want to go through that trauma every time as i was really getting frustrated with it. Even when i tried to take the filter head off it was still going to squirt all over me.

Can someone tell me what i'm doing wrong here. Any help would be appreciated :)

PS. as for the leaks ive figured the problem was the small 0rings not seated right.

I'm gonna get new external filter in few weeks, did research on it . At some point you will see small leaks, even best ones have it, this is due to old O rings which should be replaced (don't know how often though) and also you could use vaseline for leaks. If you don't have instruction then maybe somebody with experience will be able to tell you more about it to maintain it for years.
