So my friend (who has a 10 gallon and a betta tank) decided she wanted to get a bigger tank so she got a 29 gallon. I told her about cycling and explained it to her, and she was going to cycle it with 3 black skirt tetras from her 10 gallon and 3 danios that she was going to buy. (and then I would get them) Well, she added the 3 tetras after a few days, and she goes to the petstore to look for more (fake) plants. She was told by one of the oh-so knowledgable (HAHAHA) employes that in about a week, she could come back and get her water tested, and if it tested fine she could start adding other fish. Well I told her that there was no way her tank would cycle in a week, but she ignored me. So she goes back and gets her water tested, and her ammonia was apparently really high, so the employe tells her she can start adding fish!!! WTF??? I told her that ammonia was deadly, and the 5 neons (these are the fish that I told her to add last because they are so sensitive...she listens really well, don't you think?) would most likely die. I give her all this good advice and she doesn't even follow it. Another thing I'm pissed off about is that she wants to get a few angels too, and I told her if she wants angels then she can't have neons because the angels would eat the neons. I suggested for her to get cardnal tetras, because they are larger and have the same coloring as neons. I kind of hope she gets the angels so all her neons will go bye-bye! Then I can tell her "I told you so!". Oh I am so evil.
Oh, and she never did get the danios, which sucks because I was looking forward to adding them to my school of 9.

Ok, I have another rant.
Today my friend went out of town (she lives a few doors down) and she asked me to let her dog out (an evil Jack Russel Terrier!) so I go let it out and the poor thing doesn't have any water! You'd think they'd fill it up before they go. So I give him some water and go upstairs to check on her budgie and her betta (I had brought some frozen bloodworms for it, as a treat because all she feeds it is pellets  ) and her budgie doesn't have any water either! And it has one of those water dispensers where you can fill it up so it lasts a long time, and she didn't even bother to fill it up. Geesh. So I fill that up too. Then I go to feed her betta, and its in a 1 gallon bowl, and it only has less then half the water left in it! She lets it evaporate and doesn't bother to fill it up. She hasn't done a water change in months, either. The poor thing used to have tons of personality and beautiful fins, and now it sits on the bottom, with clamped fins, and looks plain sad :( I knew she would get mad if I changed the water, so I didn't.
So then I go to see her other betta in her 20 gallon filtered/heated tank, and its only filled up 2/3 of the way! I have told her many times that she needs to fill it up or else her heater will shatter, because its out of the water too much. Also, since there is only 1 fish in there, she thinks she doesn't have to change the water. Grrr...

Okay, I think I'm done for today.

Well, as to the betta in the bowl, you could always tell them it died.... then suddenly have a new betta that 'yeah, sorta looks like that one you had doesn't it?'

I'm sorry, but I'd just tell them look, you ask for advice and then don't even bother to at least listen, so don't ask me anything more about it, and I don't want to hear anything about your fish tanks period, not what fish you got, how cool it looks, anything. If they are going to ask your advice the least they could do is listen at least a little, or else keep their mouths shut.

I'm defently not giving ANY more advice to the friend with the 29 gallon.
I'll tell you guys when those neons die...because they will! Its either the ammonia that will kill them or the angels (and I'm pretty sure, no matter what I told her, that she is still getting angels) Oh well, thats her waste of money. I feel sorry for the fish though :(

LoL...I should steal that betta, and make sure she just doesn't see it at my house! It looks so pathetic right now, with clean water and a little bit of melafix (and tender loving care!) it won't even look like the same betta.

Dont wish death upon innocent neons just because idiots exist!

The angels MIGHT not eat the neons as some people have successfully kept angels with neons, but they would eat them if they were in the wild. It is like you're not supposed to keep a male betta with any long-finned fish, but some people get away with it because they have a "docile" male betta. I would steal the betta and just say it died and you threw it away. Then just hide him if your friend comes over. :p Did you do a water change and fill the tanks back up? That is what I would do.

Also you said your friend had the black skirt tetras? These fish are known nippers and will most likely nip at the angels. She is just asking for a 100% death tank. :-( You should show her this forum.

I have some really great advice for you.

Kidnap all the animals and head for Canada.
Unless, of course, you already live there.
Then head for the U.S.

You're right. That is when you slap them and steal their animals and run for the border as Bettamomma has suggested. :p

Who can I live with over there in the US? LoL. Requirements: A HUGE HOUSE!

Yah, she's a little nuts. No, but I guess because that person works in a petstore, they should know more then I do (Yah right) and she believes that
I saw an add in the newspaper looking to hire people, and all it said is that you have to like animals and be able to lift 50 pounds. (I guess for doing water changes) Joe blow down the street likes animals, and he can defently lift 50 pounds, so I guess he knows more about fish then I do. Basicly, I think, thats what she's saying.

Oh, and BTW, I'm pretty sure she's moving the black skirted tetras back into her 10 gallon after. Knowing her though, she probably won't.

How long is your friend out of town? What if you took her betta home with you for a few days and "accidentally" cleaned up his bowl (and filled it) :D

Yes, it's really frustrating. Though a lot of people when they ask for advice, keep asking until they get the answer they're looking for (ie "Cycling? You don't need to cycle a tank!" "Oh sure, oscars are community fish, they just loooove having yummy little tankmates" ) B)

Come live with us...we have a pretty big house and love animals...go, stealthy now and God's speed.
