and was wondering if there was a website that u cud specify how many males and females u wud want? altho ino alot will b too young to sex etc just wondering

okay basically! im wondering if there is anywhere you can buy fronts and specify that you want say 3 females and 1 male? (for example)

good luck trying that, their very hard to sex, especially when young!!!

it's usually advised to buy 4-6 and wait for some signs of sexes. BUT this can take a year or more so keep that in mind.

what size tank are they going in?

Generally, I think a 6ft tank is common. You can house them in something smaller but eventually, you'll end up moving them as they grow bigger. I'm a beginner aquarist (almost 3 years now) and started off with African Cichlids. As stated from the previous replies, it is difficult to sex the fish when they're young.

My first purchase was a colony of Burundi Frontosas bought at my LFS. Burundis seem to be the commonly sold Frontosas in LFS. I initially started out with 20x Frontosas at about an 1"-1.5" each. Every three months I would trade the biggest Frontosa back to LFS for store credit to buy more food. I did this until I ended up with 12x Frontosas. This allowed me to improve my male to female ratio and provide more swim-space since they were bigger by then. Eventually, I ended up with fry.

There are many Frontosas available in the online market but are very sought after. Depending on their collection point from the lake they tend to have slight differences. Experienced keepers can identify certain ones but in my experience, I could only spot the Kigoma and Burundis. It seems that the very blue colored one's are raking in top dollar such as Moba and Zaire. I miss my Fronts but I thought I'd give myself another challenge and switch to another Tanganyikan cichlid. Eventually, I'll go back to Fronts when I'm not limited to 2 aquariums.

Like I said, I'm very new to fishkeeping and learned from other people's experiences on various forums. I admit that I caught the African Cichlid craze and my wife says that I'm addicted. Very true!

I am currently on my 4th week of keeping Tropheus. So far, 23 have died in my experience and now I'm on Day 4 with my 3rd colony of 23 Tropheus Duboisi. Hope my two cents helped.
