Hello all i just got some young discus from a friend of myn they are great, they are living in a peaceful community at the moment, a couple of glowlights, a breeding trio of bn plecs, some black corys, and lots of bn young the tank is juwel rio 125 litres do you think their is anything i need to change to make them more comfortable.

Current stocks are

10x glowlight tetras
3 adult bn plecs and around 200 young very small though
4x black corydora's
and a couple of young albino corys
then the two discuss who are about 2" in body size not including fins

Filteration is the built in juwel filter, and another smaller filter to help keep the water well filtered, and water changes are atleast twice a week sometimes more.

Do you think im ok for the time been with my stocking.

thanks.

At the moment that sounds ok, not ideal but ok as they are so young. Discus do like to be in groups of 5 minimum in which you would need at least a 55 gal. With just two one will probably bully the other and they could be unhappy, they feel safer in a bigger group and it spreads out the bullying. Just keep an eye on them and look out for signs of stress bars showing or them going dark or hiding away at back of tank. Your other tankmates will get along fine with the Discus.
regards Angel

Thanks thats great they have the stress bars at the moment but they have not had time to settle yet the light is off and ive put some food in to keep the other fish occupied so hopefull they should be left to settle in

:good:

i agree with angelmouse, its fine at the moment. but you will need to get 3/4 more and a bigger tank soon. just keep up with water changes.

like said if only 2 are kept one will bully the other and it will hide and could die. more of them spreads out aggression.

the best discus i ever had lived on his own in a community tank,

i think he forgot he was supposed to be a shy gracefull fish. He was probably the fish with the most character, joined in chasing angels around and swimming back and forth across the front of the tank to get my attention lol mainly for more food lol he was awesome!!
