Just Got Some New Plants And Would Like To Know About Them

hey, in my tank at the moment all i have i sone type of plant. i dont know the name of it but it grows really quickly and when the plant breaks it just makes a new plant from the broken off bits so im having to chucks bits of plants away all the time because theres too much. it kind of looks like pond weed? well today i orderd some new plants off ebay. im working alot this week so it was easyier to buy them online then go to my fish shop. anyway ... i brought quite a few and i was just wondering if you could tell me bit about them and if there hardy plants. i dont know alot about plants have had sucses with the plant in my tank at the moment. i used to have java furn but i buired the roots and it died i understand u cant do that now. but anyway the plants i brought were...


10 Hygrophila difformis Water Wisteria

20 Vallisneria

5 Common Amazon Sword

5 Water Sprite

not sure if these are easy to look after or if they need much attention i hope not. i do have liquid fertiliser and i use that and i have a bulb that is ment to help plant grouth. but that all the help they get. ive herd of amazon sword before but no nothing about it. so some help on these plants if anyone knows what they are would be great cheers.

How big is the tank that you are putting them in? You will need 1.5-2 watts per gallon for these plants and if your tank is really tall 2 watts would be great. Make sure not to leave the light on all the time too. I noticed in my own tank that if I leave the light on more than 12 hours a day the plants tend to loose color and look sloppy. What kind of liquid fert are you using also?

Your plant is probably Elodea Densa which is a very common plant and very hard to kill let alone take care of!

my tank is only a 95L and i have API leaf zone liquid fert

all of those plants are very easy care and you don't need 2wpg to look after them. What is the lighting in your tank?

I agree with Ian, you do not need high lighting for those plants. The hygrophila difformis will grow like a weed under the right conditions, and amazon swords do well in most tanks

thats good to hear i dont know what my lighting is i just no the bulb ive got is to promote plant grouth. they all seem to be doing fine at the mo cheers for the help!
