Ok, so I got a 20H aquarium and an aquaclear30 filter and I had a few tank stocking ideas such as dwarf rainbows with some other fish and snails or a betta and other fish and/or shrimp, and my other idea is dwarf gouramis. By the way the comma means that its the end if the stocking suggestion and I know I cant have all those fish in a 20H. But I would like to know some ideas possibly and be able to start a lovely aquarium. One other question as well... Do you all think an aquaclear 30 is good enough for my needs or should I get a seachem or aquaclear 50?

Can you provide us with the GH and pH of your source tap water? This will help members suggest suitable fish.

Also, are plants intended, and what sort of aquascape are you thinking of? Some fish have requirements when it comes to specific decor like wood or rock or caves or sand substrate instead of gravel, etc.

The filter (Aquaclear 30) is more than enough for a 20g tank, but this partly depends upon the selection of fish. Gourami for example do not like strong currents, but if you can reduce the flow that may work.

dwarf rainbows
Well... too large for your tank

That all depends on your water parameters : KH, GH, pH.
Betta does much more better alone. Whatever some may say, Betta is not a community fish.

Dwarf gouramis may fit your tank if densely planted including floating plants : dwarf gouramis are very shy.

Well I plan on having 2 java ferns on drift wood and some anubias on driftwood with some dragon rock near the middle all on some black aquarium sand

As for water perimeters I am not sure. But I know we have soft water

As examples, these are well planted tanks :

Is your water supplied by a water provider or is it from a well? If you have a water provider, look on their website for hardness. If they give it, you need a number and the unit of measurement as there are several they could use.

Ok I'll try to see if I can. Thanks.
