Just good friends?

I have 2 black mollies, that have been raised together as fry and are now about 4 months old. I thought one was male and the other female, so when my big tank was ready I moved the male over, to stop him harassing the other one ( which is a lot bigger than him). And to prevent any fry appearing

But - the other one seems to be male as well now. I am confused A week ago he looked like a girl, now he looks like a boy. I have a female in a hospital tank, so the difference is clear. Anyway I moved him into the big tank as well and now the smaller one that was already there, is sniffing around - literally! His nose is permanently parked at the other ones bum.

Er - is this normal for 2 males?

my livebearers do this too. if it moves they will try to mate with it and it doesnt matter what gender it is either

Females can turn into males if their are no males in the tank they are housed in. However you dont have to worry about it happening again, its a one time thing. males cant turn into females. I wouldnt worry about the buddy thing, I have two female mollys who are siblings and they act the same way. I think it comes from growing up together...a attatchment thing.
